White Tower - Assembly    September 2024

Video showing the assembly of the fourth floor of the White Tower (Weisser Turm) for Fundaziun Origen in the Swiss Alps. The level consists of eight columns, each of which is 6 meters high and weighs 10 tons. Columns are 3D printed using concrete extrusion and robotic rebar placement at ETH in Zurich, and assembled in the village of Savognin before their final transport to the village of Mulegns.

Designed by architects Michael Hansmeyer and Benjamin Dillenburger, the White Tower will be the tallest 3D-printed structure in the world upon completion. With a total of six floors and a height of 30 meters, the tower will host music and theater performances and act as a beacon for the region. The White Tower's central design element consists of 32 branched Y-shaped, 3D-printed columns. Each column has a unique system of ornament consisting of larger undulating ribs and a smaller material-driven texture.
